Hey there y'all

The cows are mooning the camera

I started Living Empty Nested because I was having a hard time letting my kids go. Being an empty nester and having a quiet home is very different from what I was used to.  I have been a mom for 26 years and now I have no idea what to do with myself or my time.  Do I take up a new hobby, binge Netflix all day, or take up ballroom dancing with my husband.  I have no idea.

I figure there are other mommas out there that have felt or feel like I have and maybe they would benefit from what I have learned and other things that I'm interested in now.

My goal is to help middle aged women learn they are still important, just in a different way. Together, hopefully, we can all learn to move forward and have a very happy mid-life together.

So, let me give you the backstory on my life real quick. My boys have been gone for awhile but I took care of my mom for over 3.5 years as she struggles with dementia.  Unfortunately, my mom became too much for us to handle and we just recently moved her into a nursing home.

When my oldest moved out in the Spring of 2018 and my youngest son went away to college in the Fall of 2016, I didn't realize that was the end. It never occurred to me that my youngest son would never come back home after college and I'm not sure what I thought about my oldest. I guess I thought he would be back. I don't know why I thought that since he was fixing to be a daddy. I guess because I still took care of my mom, I didn't fully feel the effects of being an empty nester until March 2021.

I was blessed to be the mom of two wonderful and amazing sons. They both live in Houston, about 3 hours from me, and I miss them each and every day. My oldest son has blessed me with a grandson that was born in December 2018 and a granddaughter that was born in May 2021. I remarried in 2007 to Lynn who had 3 kiddos of his own, 2 sons and 1 daughter. When we met, my boys were 9 and 11 and his boys were 9 and 13 and his daughter was 18. As you can image, the house was extremely crazy when all the boys were there. I miss that chaotic craziness and I even miss the constant back and forth to the kitchen. It's a process, but I'm slowing learning to let go of the reigns and let the kiddos do their own thing.

I originally started blogging back in Spring of 2017. I had big dreams for my blog but I knew absolutely nothing about running a blog. Long story short, that blog failed and I gave up. But I really missed blogging so I again started another blog in the Fall of 2019. This time I put my heart and soul into it and thought it was pretty good. Unfortunately, I came upon hard times and could not afford to keep my blog going and had to let it go. Then I saw a blog post by another blogger about how to make a comeback if you had quit blogging.

That blog post sparked the love of blogging once again.
And here I am...AGAIN.

Third time's a charm, right?
